Senior Police Commissioner Ematu enthroned as Ipiatok Inomu clan head

The Kumam cultural heritage and the Inomo clan of Lango have appointed former senior police officer Mr. Ematu John Peter Ocii as their clan leader to succeed the late Enguna Simon. Mr. Ematu was officially installed on Saturday, the 25th of the month, at his residence in Opiyai B cell, Opiyai ward, Soroti City East division in Eastern Uganda.

ASP Musakana Hamed, the head of human resources at the police headquarters, led a team of police officers who commended the members of the Ipiatok Inomu clan for selecting a capable leader. He described Mr. Ematu as an adviser, attentive listener, and competent leader who possesses a deep understanding of society.

ASP Nausha Damali, the RPC of the East Kyoga region, urged clan leaders to collaborate with the police in the fight against crime. She acknowledged the decrease in crime rates due to the cooperation and community policing efforts.

Mr. Fredrick Ogwal Oyee, the Awitong of the Inomo clan in Lango, emphasised that the purpose of the visit was to establish a lasting relationship between the Kumam’s Inomu clan and Lango’s Inomo clan. Ogwal Oyee, who led the Owitonge team from Lango, encouraged clan members to embrace and promote cocoa cultivation to enhance household income and alleviate poverty.

Hon. James Olobo Dubai, the clan leader of the Emugenya clan and the Member of Parliament for Kyoga North, praised the Ugandan president for recognising the rights of cultural institutions. Olobo, who represented the Minister of Teso Affairs, advised Lango cultural leaders to show respect for the newly elected paramount chief and to resolve conflicts within cultural institutions.

The newly appointed clan leader, Assistant Commissioner of Police Mr. Ematu John Peter, expressed his commitment to fostering a strong relationship between Lango and Kumam during his leadership tenure. He pledged to collaborate with the appointed executive members to unite the clan members.

Hon. Richard Ebongu, the Minister of Awon Ateker who represented Papa Won Atekerein in Kumam, commended the Ipiatok Inomu clan for selecting significant leaders and called for unity, respect for the government, church leaders, elders, and all special interest groups.

Bongu raised concerns about the high levels of traditional land sales and called for immediate intervention. He urged the newly appointed clan leader to prioritise education and combat school dropout rates among clan members.

Other Lango clan leaders who attended the enthronement of the Ipiatok Inomu clan leader in Soroti city included Anthony Olobo Odur,_Awitong Atek Omwonpel, Denish Obia Acila, Awitong Atek, Onote, Laury Lawrence Ocen, Awitong Okarowok wibye Acel, and Francis Xavier, Abaca_Awitong Ngila Acel.

Commissioner Ematu John Peter currently serves in the Uganda Police Force as the Human Resource Manager overseeing discipline and chairing the receiving committee. The Kumam culture comprises 225 clans registered under the Kumam cultural heritage.
