The Rev. Ven. Sam Otim Ogwang, Archdeacon of Awelo Archdeaconry, has made a compelling call for the community to abstain from alcohol and sexual activities in pursuit of a longer, healthier life.
This powerful message was delivered during the centenary celebration of Mr. Ogwok Becweri, held in Dyango Baro village, Akongomit Parish, Awelo Sub-County.
During his address, Archdeacon Ogwang expressed deep concern over the harmful impacts that excessive alcohol consumption and promiscuity can have on one’s longevity.
He passionately articulated that these behaviors not only shorten life spans but also diminish the quality of life, urging the community to consider the long-term effects of their choices.
In his remarks, the Archdeacon emphasized the importance of diligence and prayer, particularly for the elderly. He encouraged seniors to remain active and spiritually engaged, fostering both physical well-being and emotional resilience. Archdeacon Ogwang pointed to Mr. Ogwok Becweri as a prime example of a healthy lifestyle, asserting that his century-long journey serves as a beacon for others in the community.
“It is vital that we recognize how our habits shape our futures. By steering clear of alcohol and engaging in responsible behavior, we set ourselves up for a prosperous and fulfilling life,” he stated.
Complementing the Archdeacon’s powerful message, Rev. Tom Apeto, who served as the guest preacher at the centennial celebration, encouraged the elderly to seek divine guidance instead of turning to witch doctors for protection. He reminded them of the critical role they play in establishing a positive legacy for their grandchildren, emphasizing the need to lay a solid foundation for future generations.
“Your wisdom and experiences are treasures that can guide the young. Build a legacy of strength and faith, ensuring that your values live on through your descendants,” he urged.
Ms. Betty, chairperson of the organizing committee for the birthday celebration, expressed her heartfelt gratitude to all individuals who participated in honoring her father, Ogwok Becweri. She acknowledged the support and love of the community in celebrating such a significant milestone.
“Today, we gather not just to celebrate a life well-lived but to commit ourselves to the lessons he has taught us all. Thank you for standing with us in this joyful occasion.” Betty added.
