A devastating incident occurred in Oyaro South, Kiru Town Council, Abim District, where 25-year-old Obonyo Moses, commonly known as Pokba, tragically lost his life after engaging in a waragi drinking competition on an empty stomach.
According to eyewitnesses, Pokba participated in the competition on 5th.August 2024 night, consuming large quantities of waragi without food. He was found unresponsive the next morning and failed to regain consciousness.
Ocheng Joseph, the LC1 Chairperson of Oyaro South, expressed deep regret over the incident, stating that the community is in shock.
Reports allege that an individual identified as Odong supplied the waragi and encouraged others to participate in the drinking competition to test their consumption limits.
The incident has raised concerns about the dangers of excessive alcohol consumption and the importance of responsible drinking practices.
