Police discover linked victims of Lake Kwania drowning

 According to North Kyoga Region Police, three young men drowned and died in Lake Kwania on August 8, 2024, in Ojur cell, Amuda Eastern ward, Agwata town council, Dokolo district.

The incident is said to have occurred at around 10:00 a.m.

SP Patrick Jimmy Okema, the region’s PRO, said Oguta John, 56, reported the incident to the police in Agwata.

Oguta serves as the LCI chairperson for the Ojur cell.

The deceased have all been identified. One is Otwii Ronald, 24, of Ojur cell, Amuda ward, Agwata town council.

Okwada Ayubentine, 25, is a resident of Odipawigweng village, Agali sub-county, Lira district.

The third victim, Okao, 26, is a resident of Ojur cell, Amuda Eastern ward, Agwata town council.

It is alleged that on August 7, 2024, one of the deceased Okwada travelled from Lira with his parents to attend the burial and slept there.

 The next day, around 7 a.m., he met his other relatives, Otwii and Okao, and they went to nearby Lake Kwania to bathe.

“But unfortunately, they were all suspected to have drowned and died in the lake at Ojur cell, Amuda Eastern ward, Agwata Town council in Dokolo district,” said SP Okema.

The deceased’s bodies were recovered from the lake and transported to Dokolo Health Centre IV for postmortem examination.

“Investigation is ongoing,” said PRO SP Okema.

The PRO described the incident as “very unfortunate,” adding, “We encourage people who are new to an area to always seek advice from the locals before entering any water bodies.”
