The long-awaited MV Bukungu Ferry, which will operate between Kagwara Landing Site in Serere District, Kaberamaido, and Bukungu in Buyende District, is now prepared to initiate its services.
This announcement was made by the Uganda National Roads Authority (UNRA) on Wednesday, 7th August 2024, following the ceremonial launch of MV Bukungu at Bukungu in Buyende District.
The launch ceremony ensued after the vessel successfully passed the Floatation test, a crucial safety assessment in maritime engineering before a vessel embarks on its sailing operations.
The ferry is structured to accommodate over 300 passengers and can transport more than 20 vehicles per trip, making it a significant addition to Uganda’s aquatic transportation infrastructure.
As per Mr. Ssempebwa, the spokesperson for UNRA, the successful test of the vessel signifies a momentous achievement in the realm of transportation within the region.
The MV Bukungu-Kaberamaido-Kagwara 1 is part of a broader initiative to enhance the transportation infrastructure in the region, offering a safer and more efficient mode of travel for both locals and tourists.
Its unveiling is highly anticipated, with expectations of a positive economic impact on the local communities surrounding Lake Kyoga.
