A 30-year-old man named Okello Jasper from Dii-Badi village in Agwingiri parish, Amolatar district, tragically took his own life after losing 60,000 Uganda shillings. According to Mr. Omara Denis, the local council chairperson, Okello had been paid 70,000 Uganda shillings for work done in a garden on October 27, 2024. However, during his journey home, he spent 10,000 shillings and subsequently realized that he had misplaced the remaining 60,000 shillings.
Mr. Omara reported that upon arriving home, Okello expressed his distress over the lost money and mentioned his intention to end his life.
In a desperate attempt to seek help, his wife went to inform her mother-in-law about the situation.
Unfortunately, upon their return, they discovered Okello’s lifeless body hanging from a tree near their courtyard.
Authorities were notified, and the police arrived at the scene, subsequently arranging for the body to be handed over for burial.
Statements have been collected from the local council, Okello’s mother, and the clan chief to assist in the investigation. Okello is survived by his wife and three children.
