Lango, a sub region in northern Uganda, is battling with poverty like many other regions of the country.
However, Eng. Dr. Michael Moses Odongo Okune, the recently elected Lango paramount chief, has a vision to change this situation.
He believes that by showcasing the success stories of commercial farmers, Lango can pave a path towards eradicating poverty.
In a recent visit to the Banya clan head, Brig Gen Bosco Omure, Odongo reiterated the importance of displaying the names of model farmers and their achievements in the fight against poverty.

According to Odongo, rural villages in Lango are home to many successful farmers whose names should be displayed as a source of inspiration for others.
“This would not only act as a motivation for struggling farmers but also provide a platform for knowledge sharing” he said.
He explains that farmers can visit these model farms and acquire first-hand knowledge and skills to improve their own techniques and production.

In his farm, Brig Gen Bosco Omure has implemented a 4-acre model that focuses on a diverse set of agricultural products such as fruits, birds, and commercial trees like coffee.
This mix of products has not only brought financial success for Omure but has also helped in increasing biodiversity in the region.
Odongo believes that this is a prime example of how a small-scale farmer can contribute to the fight against poverty.
Odongo urges clan heads to take the lead in showcasing the skills and success of model farmers in their respective communities.
“As leaders, they have the responsibility to guide and inspire their people towards prosperity” Odongo added.
He also plans to tour these model farms with clan heads to impart essential skills and knowledge to farmers, ultimately leading to more success stories in the fight against poverty.
The visit to Brig Gen Bosco Omure’s farm has already had a positive impact on the Okarowok Odwe clan head, Joel Omadi Agabi.
He expressed his gratitude to Eng Odongo Okune and acknowledged the valuable lessons he learned from the visit.
Agabi believes that every clan leader should practice what they preach and have a garden that generates income for their households.
Eng Dr. Michael Moses Odongo Okune’s vision to showcase the achievements of successful commercial farmers in the fight against poverty is a step in the right direction for Lango.
