LIRA, UGANDA – Lira University is honored to announce that President Yoweri Museveni will be the Chief Guest at its 6th Graduation Ceremony, scheduled for Friday, January 17, 2025. This momentous occasion, as detailed by Patrick Opio, Senior Communications Officer, will take place at the Lira University Main Campus and is set to celebrate the achievements of 496 graduands who will receive degrees and Post-Graduate Diplomas across various academic programs.

The graduating class is comprised of 274 males (55.2%) and 222 females (44.8%), reflecting Lira University’s commitment to gender inclusivity in education. The theme for this year’s ceremony is “Enlightening Futures: Empowering Minds, Transforming Communities,” which underscores the university’s mission to foster knowledge that not only benefits individuals but also uplifts the communities they serve.

Lira University has seen a steady increase in student enrollment since its inception in 2016, thanks in part to the dedication and expertise of its academic and non-academic staff. The institution aims to be a “Beacon centre of Applied Sciences and Technology,” dedicated to providing access to quality higher education, professional training, and innovative research that drives community transformation and biodiversity conservation.

Several dignitaries are expected to attend, including the First Lady and Minister of Education, Mrs. Janet Museveni; Minister of Health, Hon. Jane Ruth Aceng; Minister of Gender, Labour and Social Services, Hon. Betty Amongi; Government Chief Whip, Hon. Hampson Obua; along with Vice Chancellors from other universities, Members of Parliament from the Lango sub-region, District Chairpersons, development partners, and other notable leaders.

On this significant day, Lira University will provide graduates with their academic documents, including transcripts and certificates, enabling them to pursue job opportunities immediately after the ceremony. This practice reinforces the university’s commitment to professionalism, effectiveness, accountability, teamwork, and responsiveness to diverse needs, including those of individuals with disabilities.

Join us in celebrating the continued success of our students and the transformative role of education in our communities. For more information about the graduation ceremony and Lira University’s programs, please contact:
