Three pupils were confirmed deceased at the scene, and another woman succumbed to her injuries at the hospital.
Additionally, two other individuals are currently receiving treatment at Lira Regional Referral Hospital following an accident that occurred on November 4, 2024, at approximately 1:15 PM in Alokiri cell, along the Dokolo-Amolatar road. It has been reported that on the aforementioned date and time, a motor vehicle with registration number UAZ 298P, operated by Mr. Awira Moses, was traveling from Dokolo towards Kaberamaido.
Upon reaching Alokiri cell, just after Dokolo Primary School, he lost control of the vehicle, resulting in the deaths of three pupils and a 59-year-old woman, who later passed away at Dokolo Health Center IV.
Two additional individuals sustained serious injuries and were subsequently transferred to Lira Regional Referral Hospital for advanced medical care. According to SP Patrick Okema, spokesperson for North Kyoga police, law enforcement responded to the scene, led by the District Police Commander of Dokolo. A sketch plan could not be created at that moment due to the unrest in the community, which required police intervention to restore order.
The bodies were retrieved and transported to Dokolo Health Center IV, pending postmortem examinations.
The vehicle was secured at Dokolo Central Police Station for inspection.
The two injured victims were taken to Lira Referral Hospital for further treatment. A sketch plan was later drawn, but the traffic team has yet to revisit the site for additional investigations and to collect statements from eyewitnesses.
The identities of the deceased and the injured are still to be provided by the ground commander. This incident is indeed tragic; however, we recognize that accidents can occur unexpectedly.
“We are committed to conducting a thorough investigation to ascertain the circumstances surrounding this event”. Okema added.
We urge the relatives and the public to remain calm and assure them of our dedication to resolving this matter comprehensively.
