Police in the North Kyoga region are urging all road users to adhere to safety road signs, following the occurrence of two separate road accidents last week in Amolatar and Dokolo.
SP Jimmy Patrick Okema, the spokesperson for the North Kyoga region, made this announcement on December 9, 2024, during a weekly press briefing held at the Lira Central Police Station.
Okema emphasized the importance of caution among all road users.
He reported that in Amolatar, two individuals, Apio Elisabeth and Acio Ruth, sustained serious injuries.
It was reported that Apio, while operating motorcycle registration number UFW319B from Bangala landing side to Namasale, failed to brake upon merging onto the highway, resulting in a collision with a vehicle registered as UBD 348 A, which was traveling from Namasale to Amolatar.
In a similar incident in Dokolo, a collision occurred involving a vehicle registered as UBF012R, owned by Auto Engine Construction Company, and a red Bajaj motorcycle with registration number UFN535W.
Okema stated that this incident took place on December 8, 2024, when the driver of the Auto Engine vehicle had parked briefly to make a a short call, during which the Bajaj rider collided with the stationary vehicle.
Additionally, on December 5, 2024, the Apac district received a one-year-old German shepherd named Pistol, which is expected to enhance the region’s crime-fighting capabilities, according to Okema.
