On November 2, 2024, the Apac district reported a suspected murder and an alleged suicide.
The local police received a report from Mr. Agulu James, a local council member from Acanpii village in Alaro parish, Poi sub-county, concerning the deaths of Ajok Mary and Oruk James.
According to SP Okema Patrick, the spokesperson for the North Kioga Police, it is alleged that Oruk James, aged 38, engaged in a dispute with his younger sister, which escalated into a quarrel over unspecified circumstances.
During this altercation, he reportedly struck his sister on the head three times, set fire to their grass-thatched houses, and subsequently fled the scene.
SP Okema further stated that Ajok was later declared dead at a nearby hospital. It was also reported that Oruk was subsequently found deceased, hanging from a tree.
In light of these events, Okema urged clan leaders to address family disputes proactively to prevent escalation.
He also called upon stakeholders to provide support for girls, noting that the rise in defilement cases is attributed to a lack of resources that enable men to exploit them.
