A 50-year-old woman named Hardline Okwir has sadly taken her own life in the Abeja sub-county of Amolatar.
The community of Lubiri in Abeja sub-county was awakened in shock on December 11, 2024, upon the discovery of Hardline Okwir’s lifeless body hanging from a tree.
According to Ogwal Dick, the chairperson of the local council one Lubiri, he received the distressing news this morning regarding the incident involving Hardline Okwir, the spouse of retired teacher Mr. Okwir Dicken.
Local council chairperson Ogwal Dick emphasized the importance of mental health awareness, urging the community to be vigilant and supportive of one another. “We must take these matters seriously and look out for our neighbors,” he stated. “Sometimes, people suffer in silence, and it’s crucial that we create an environment where individuals feel safe to express their struggles.”
Upon contacting Mr. Dicken Okwir, he recounted that he had visited the trading center the previous day and, upon returning home, found that his wife was missing.
He presumed she had gone to stay with their son for the night.
However, when morning arrived, a search was conducted, which tragically led to the discovery of his wife hanging from the tree.
When asked about any possible disputes between him and his wife, Mr. Dicken firmly asserted that there were no issues between them.
He noted that his wife had been unwell and had recently been discharged from Amai Hospital, where she had shown signs of recovery.
Friends and family recounted that Hardline had been facing challenges related to her health, but there had been hopes for her recovery. Her recent discharge from the hospital had given many in the community optimism about her future. However, it appears that the internal battles she faced were too overwhelming.
The loss of Hardline Okwir serves as a painful reminder of the complexities of mental health and the need for compassion and understanding in our communities. As the days unfold, the hope is that her story will inspire others to seek help and support, ensuring that no one feels alone in their struggles.
Family confirmed that they have reported the incident to the police and are now awaiting their response.
