In a significant legal development, the Grade One court of Koroto has remanded a 21-year-old man, Ogwal Gerald, from Adeknino, until January 28, 2025. He faces serious allegations related to the theft of a Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF) uniform, raising concerns over the misuse of military attire in the community.
Ogwal, a resident of Igombola Parish, was apprehended by the District Police at Adeknino Police Station on December 28, 2024. Since his arrest, he has been held at the Central Police Station (CPS).
The formal charges were brought against him under the reference CRB 05/01/12/2024, marking a troubling step in his criminal history.
The proceedings, presided over by Judge Mzei Vincent, revealed alarming details about the case. The most serious charge involves the theft of a military uniform from the workplace of Rego Rego, where a tragic incident had recently unfolded.
A UPDF Lieutenant, Lowrance, was shot and killed during an operation at this very site, highlighting the grave context within which these allegations are set.
In light of Ogwal’s previous criminal activities, including robbery and involvement in break-ins and nighttime harassment—often while allegedly wearing the stolen uniform—the judge has deemed it necessary for him to remain in custody until the next court date.
His prior offenses have prompted concerns regarding public safety and the potential misuse of military uniforms, which are strictly regulated to maintain the integrity of law enforcement.
As the community watches closely, the implications of Ogwal’s alleged actions resonate deeply. The upcoming hearings are expected to clarify the legal proceedings and determine the next steps in addressing these serious allegations.
Local authorities and residents alike remain vigilant about the broader impact of such crimes on safety and the trust placed in law enforcement institutions in the region.
